Roy Purcell’s beautiful illustrations are not limited to the pages of Long Journey from Wikame. A 2000-square-foot set of his murals can be found on boulders outside of Chloride, AZ, where he painted “The Journey.” The bright colors of these paintings have survived the surrounding desert climate for almost 50 years, and continue to compliment the landscape to this day.

Roy Purcell’s Long Journey from Wikame was a finalist in ForeWord Magazine’s 7th Annual Book of the Year Award Competition. In 2005, Purcell’s book was chosen as a finalist from over 1,000 submissions! Along with 12 other finalists in its category, Long Journey from Wikame received recognition for the excellence with which it was published.
